Dias indicados para dar a honra especial ao Deus, ao Salvador, a santos, e a coisas sagradas. Alguns são festivais fixados, cada um que tem certo dia do ano destinado a ele. Os outros são móveis, ocorrendo antes ou depois em anos diferentes. Os festivais também são divididos em Days designated for giving special honor to God, to the Saviour, to saints, and to holy things. - holy days of obligation – the faithful are required to assist at Mass and abstain from unnecessary servile work
- festivais ordinários – a igreja simplesmente observa a festa no seu Office e missa
- ordinary festivals – the Church merely observes the feast in her Office and Mass

Certos dias quando a igreja não honra nenhum santo são chamados ferials (feira, um dia útil). Alguns grandes festivais têm a oitava, que estende a solenidade da festa por oito dias; e alguns têm vigílias, nas quais a observância da festa é começada no dia precedente.Certain days when the Church does not honor any saint are called ferials (feria, a weekday). Some great festivals have octaves, which extend the solemnity of the feast through eight days; and some have vigils, in which the observance of the feast is begun on the preceding day.
