Su objeto principal era la determinación definitiva de las doctrinas de la iglesia en la respuesta a herejías protestantes. Its main object was the definitive determination of the doctrines of the Church in answer to Protestant heresies. A further object was a thorough reform of the inner life of the Church by removing the numerous abuses that had developed in it.
