Ein Kreuz, dessen vier Arme von der gleichen Länge sind. Es wird nur selten in frühem ChristChristian Kunstart gefunden. Später wurde es auf Säulen und Dächern von Kirchen verwendet, um anzuzeigen, dass sie gewidmet wurden. Es wird in der Dekoration von Ostkirchen sehr verwendet. Ein griechisches in einem Quadrat eingeschriebenes Kreuz bildete den Grundriss der Kirche von Saint Sophia, die vom Kaiser Justinian in Constantinople in 537, und danach vieler anderer Ostkirchen gebaut ist. A cross the four arms of which are of equal length. It is found only rarely in early ChristChristian Kunstart. Later it was used on pillars and roofs of churches to denote that they were consecrated. It is much used in the decoration of Eastern churches. A Greek cross inscribed in a square formed the ground plan of the church of Saint Sophia, built by the Emperor Justinian in Constantinople in 537, and thereafter of many other Eastern churches.
