Dimanche Le 7 octobre7 October 15711571 les flottes chrétiennes combinées sous don John de l'Autriche a accompli une victoire navale significative sur les Turcs dans les Détroits de Lepanto. Des milliers de chrétiens ont été libérés, la flotte turque a été détruite et ils ont subi leur première grande défaite en mer. Dans la gratitude à Dieu et à Notre Lady, PapePope SaintSaint Pius VPius V a ordonné à une commémoration annuelle d'être faite de Notre Lady de Victoire. Dans 15731573 PapePope Gregory XIIIGregory XIII a transféré le festin jusqu'au premier dimanche d'octobre avec le titre le Festin du Rosaire le Plus saint depuis que la victoire a été gagnée par l'invocation de Notre Lady du Rosaire. Dans 17161716 PapePope Clement XIIClement XII a étendu le festin au calendrier de Rite latin entier, en l'assignant jusqu'au premier dimanche en octobre. PapePope SaintSaint Pius XPius X a changé la date jusqu'au 7 octobre en 1913. Dans 19691969 PapePope Paul VIPaul VI a changé le nom du festin à Notre Lady du Rosaire. On Sunday Le 7 octobre7 October 15711571 the combined Christian fleets under Don John of Austria achieved a significant naval victory over the Turks in the Straits of Lepanto. Thousands of Christians were liberated, the Turkish fleet was destroyed, and they suffered their first great defeat at sea. In gratitude to God and Our Lady, PapePope SaintSaint Pius VPius V ordered an annual commemoration to be made of Our Lady of Victory. In 15731573 PapePope Gregory XIIIGregory XIII transferred the feast to the first Sunday of October with the title Feast of the Most Holy Rosary since the victory was won through invocation of Our Lady of the Rosary. In 17161716 PapePope Clement XIIClement XII extended the feast to the whole Latin Rite calendar, assigning it to the first Sunday in October. PapePope SaintSaint Pius XPius X changed the date to 7 October in 1913. In 19691969 PapePope Paul VIPaul VI changed the name of the feast to Our Lady of the Rosary.
