Cualquier objeto separado y bendito por la iglesia para excitar pensamientos buenos, aumentar lealtad, y así remitir pecado venial. El nombre significa que el artículo bendito tiene un poco de parecido a un sacramento, en vista de que es un medio de la gracia; pero un sacramental se diferencia de un sacramento en esto, que éste siempre produce la gracia directamente cuando no hay ningún obstáculo de parte del recipiente, mientras los antiguos productos ella sólo indirectamente, causando el lealtad en la mente del usuario.
