En Craignant Dieu et n'en Craignant pas le Démon
On Fearing God, and Not Fearing the Devil
"La peur", a dit il, “le Seigneur et garde Ses commandements. Car si vous gardez les commandements de Dieu, vous serez vigoureux dans chaque action et chacune de vos actions sera incomparable. En craignant Car, le Seigneur, vous ferez toutes les choses bien. C'est la peur que vous devez avoir, que vous pouvez être sauvés. Mais craignez pas le démon; pour, en craignant le Seigneur, vous aurez le dominion sur le démon, car il n'y a aucun pouvoir dans lui. Mais il dans qui il n'y a aucun pouvoir ne doit en aucun cas être un objet de peur; mais on doit le craindre vraiment dans qui il y a le pouvoir glorieux. Pour chacun qui a le pouvoir doit être craint; mais il qui n'a pas de pouvoir est méprisé par tous. La peur, donc, les actes du démon, comme ils sont méchants. En craignant Car, le Seigneur, vous ne ferez pas ces actes, mais vous retiendrez d'eux. Car les peurs sont de deux sortes : car si vous ne voulez pas le faire qui est méchant, craignez le Seigneur et vous ne le ferez pas; mais, de nouveau, si vous voulez le faire qui est bon, craignez le Seigneur et vous le ferez. Et pour cette raison la peur du Seigneur est forte et grande et glorieuse. La peur, alors, le Seigneur et vous lui vivrez et autant que le craignent et gardent Ses commandements vivra à Dieu.”“Fear,” said he, “the Lord, and keep His commandments. For if you keep the commandments of God, you will be powerful in every action, and every one of your actions will be incomparable. For, fearing the Lord, you will do all things well. This is the fear which you ought to have, that you may be saved. But fear not the devil; for, fearing the Lord, you will have dominion over the devil, for there is no power in him. But he in whom there is no power ought on no account to be an object of fear; but He in whom there is glorious power is truly to be feared. For every one that has power ought to be feared; but he who has not power is despised by all. Fear, therefore, the deeds of the devil, since they are wicked. For, fearing the Lord, you will not do these deeds, but will refrain from them. For fears are of two kinds: for if you do not wish to do that which is evil, fear the Lord, and you will not do it; but, again, if you wish to do that which is good, fear the Lord, and you will do it. Wherefore the fear of the Lord is strong, and great, and glorious. Fear, then, the Lord, and you will live to Him, and as many as fear Him and keep His commandments will live to God.”
"Pourquoi", a dit que je, “monsieur, avez-vous dit en ce qui concerne ceux qui gardent Ses commandements, qu'ils vivront à Dieu ?”“Why,” said I, “sir, did you say in regard to those that keep His commandments, that they will live to God?”
"Puisque", dit il, “toute la création craint le Seigneur, mais toute la création ne garde pas Ses commandements. Ils seulement qui craignent le Seigneur et gardent Ses commandements ont la vie avec Dieu; mais quant à ceux qui gardent pas Ses commandements, il n'y a aucune vie dans eux.”“Because,” says he, “all creation fears the Lord, but all creation does not keep His commandments. They only who fear the Lord and keep His commandments have life with God; but as to those who keep not His commandments, there is no life in them.”
