Despite the fact that the Criminal Code contained no definition of torture, the concept of “suffering amounting to torture” was explained in Slovakia's case law as comprising extraordinary, incremental or prolonged physical or psychological pain, pain that was almost unendurable but inflicted for a short period, or pain that was endurable but inflicted for a longer period.
