How to translate a text

Select TRANSLATION from the top menu.

Type or paste the copied text into the source text field.

If your keyboard does not contain specific characters for different languages, you can use Virtual keyboard.

Select the source language or choose Detect language, if you want the source language to be detected automatically. Then select the target language.

You can swap the source and target languages by clicking this button .

To translate the typed text, press Enter or click .

The translation will be displayed in the field on the right. You can copy and print the result. By pressing this button you can copy the link to the translation.

If you pasted the copied text, it will be translated automatically.

If you like the translation, you can add it to My translations (available only for registered users).

When translating a single word or phrase in the field below the translation field you’ll see the dictionary information and translation examples for the translated word of phrase.

The dictionary information and translation examples will be displayed also if you select a word or phrase in the text.

View the full list of contexts for a word by clicking More contexts.

When translating a verb, you can see not only the basic forms of the word and dictionary information with a complete list of translations, but also its conjugation. To see it click Conjugation – then the section Word forms opens.

How to improve the quality of machine translation

If you translate manually typed texts, follow these easy tips to avoid translation errors.

  1. Try to avoid spelling errors and typos.
  2. Take care with punctuation: even a comma or a dash can affect the translation result.
  3. Pay attention to articles and function words.
  4. Don’t forget to use diacritical marks (for example é, ò, ü), when translating from French, Spanish, Portuguese or German.
  5. Don’t forget to capitalize first names, last names, cities, company names and other types of proper nouns.
  6. In German, nouns are always capitalized.

DICTIONARY

In the section Dictionary you can see translations of single words and phrases and read grammatical information.

Dictionary reference

Select Dictionary from the top menu and type or paste a word or phrase in the appropriate filed.

Select the source language for the source text from the drop-down list or choose “Detect language”, and then select the target language.

To swap the source and target languages click this button .

Click or press [Enter].

The result will be displayed in the “Translation” field.

You will see not only all translation variants of the word, grouped by parts of speech, but also a complete dictionary reference:

  1. Basic grammatical forms of the word.
  2. Transcription (for English)/
  3. Ability to listen to the pronunciation of a word or its translation.

If the translated word is a noun or a verb, you can check the complete list of its grammatical forms. To access the complete dictionary reference, click the links "Declension" or "Conjugation"– then the section Word forms opens.

In the Expressions section you can see the list of idioms and common expressions with the translated word.

In Contexts section shown under translations and Word forms section you can see how the word is used in certain contexts. See the complete list of context by clicking "View more".

Contexts

The section "Contexts" shows you how words and phrases are used in different contexts.

Why do I need contexts and how do I use them?

Search in examples

Select "Contexts" from the top menu.

Select the source language or choose Detect language.

To swap the languages click this button .

Enter a word or phrase in the appropriate field. As you type, you will see a tooltip – a list of words and phrases that include the text you are looking for.

Click or press [Enter].

The contexts will be displayed in the field below. You will see sentences in the original language and their translations. The word or phrase you are looking for will be highlighted both in the original and in the translation.

To set an additional filter for searching in the list of examples enter the text in the “Search in the found examples” field and click . You can search both in the original language and in the target language.

Enter the text in the appropriate field and click . Search results will be highlighted in the original language and in the target language.

Sorting by translation and topic

You can sort the contexts by translation and topic.

To see examples with the specified word only for a specific translation, select the translation from those suggested in the "Translations" line.

To see examples with the specified word for a specific topic only, select the topic in the "Topic" line.

Conjugation and declension

In the section "Conjugation and declension" you can find the gender and declension of nouns, degrees of comparison of adjectives, conjugation of verbs, as well as a lot of other useful information for learning foreign languages.

Why do I need grammar tables and how do I use them?

In “Conjugation and declension” you can see the inflexion of the word you searched for. This information is presented in the form of grammar tables for Russian, English, German, Spanish and French.

Select the "Conjugation and declension" section.

Select the source language.

Type or paste a word or phrase in the appropriate field. As you enter text, a tooltip appears in the search field: a list of words or phrases that include the text you are looking for is displayed below the field.

Click or press [Enter].

You will see a table showing all the grammatical categories this word belongs to and all the forms of this word. If a word can be different parts of speech (for example, the English «test» can be a noun, a verb or an adjective), the grammar table has the corresponding tabs. To view information for a particular part of speech, switch to the appropriate tab. Here you can find the gender and declension of nouns and adjectives, degrees of comparison of adjectives, and verb conjugation.

You can also click on any word form and follow the link to the section Contexts to see how this particular word form is used.

Registration

Why do I need to register on PROMT.One?

Registration on PROMT.One is not a prerequisite for getting access to the service. But registration provides advanced options when using the services, such as:

  • Translation of text fragments up to 10 000 characters long (compare to 999 characters for non-registered users).
  • Saving your favorite translations in "My Translations".
  • Synchronization of content from “My translations” with PROMT.One mobile app.
  • Subscription to e-mail newsletters about PROMT.One service news and PROMT software products.

How to register on PROMT.One

  1. Fill out the registration form, an automated email with your registration confirmation code will be sent to your e-mail address.
    Make sure you enter the correct e-mail address in the “e-mail” field, otherwise, you will not receive your registration confirmation message and you will not be able to complete the registration process.
  2. Open the email and follow the link to confirm your registration.
  3. You can edit your personal details in your profile in the Manage account section.

If you have any questions regarding registration, please complete the support application form.

Registration via social networks

You can also register or log in using your social network profile.

To do this, just select the social network through which you want to register, click on the appropriate button, and then confirm permission to access your personal data. There’s no need to fill out the registration form then.

The site will not "find out" the password from your social network account - only the information from the profile that is necessary for registration is transmitted.

Privacy policy

Our policy regarding the collection, storage, protection, processing and disclosure of information about users of the automated translation service is defined in the Privacy policy section.

How can I delete my personal details?

Personal details are deleted within 30 (thirty) days from the date the deletion request is received; deleting personal details prevents the Service User from further use of those automated translation services available only to registered users.

To delete your personal details, complete the deletion request form.
